The 100th anniversary of photography on Ural

The celebration of the 100th anniversary of the public photographic movement in the Urals area was held in Chelyabinsk on March 15, 1997.
Veniamin Metenkov, born in 1887 in Turgoyak, is considered to be the father of the Urals photography. In early 20th century an exciseman K. Teploukhov, a photographer Yu. Kataev went in for photography.

In Chelyabinsk as well as in some other cities of the country the first photoclub was founded. The photoclub brought together both amateurs and professionals in photography. Chelyabinsk became a meeting place for photoartists from all over the world.

Jubilee evening
