THA ALKAHOLIKS Sampler Tape (Loud) Crap-rap. -pIZZA mAN
BRAZIL 2001 Fist Full of Sand (Self-release) A tropical/instrumental surf-inspired band that makes their influences obvious, but, has made music that fluctuates between mildly fun, inconsequential, and boorish drek.-pIZZA mAN
CYDAL Sex, Money, and Cydal (EastWest) A casio, a drum machine, and a couple o' cats with well-developed verbal cadence...and a rap album is born. -pIZZA mAN
ICON Self-titled (Luv) Icons they are not. Only in America can money be spent on something so inconsequential. -pIZZA mAN
PASSION/AGGRESSION Self-titled (Self-released) Bad. Bad. Bad. Beat-your-momma bad. -pIZZA mAN
SHADOW PUPPETS Self-titled (Self-releasd) Does the world really need a band that tries to sound like mid-80's Billy Squier crossed with Black Sabbath's worst album? -pIZZA mAN
SILKENSEED Self-titled (Self-released) My tape player ate this within a couple of minutes of the first song...and, I was glad.-pIZZA mAN
TRIBUS Self-titled (Latin Fusion Trio Publishing) Quite frankly, we're suprised Hearts of Space/Fathom/Narada hasn't picked up these hombres. Tight, competent, screamin' horn section; jazz-tino, Santana-esque guitars; rhythm section swings. Stylistically, they mix it up; their own brand of stew runs the Americana gamut---rock, latino, jazz, salsa, mambo...you get the drift. ¡Que gusto! -Kimgerly & Curtis Bay
VAUGHN Identity Crisis (Self-produced) Lay off the Trent Reznor voxs and get y'self a rapper from Oakland, CA----and you be fine. The music is way cool. -Curtis Bay
WINK Are you there... (Ovum) Are you there? No, we left already. Rote, lame programming. Anyone with an IQ of a turnip and a smidgen of creativity could have done much more than what this slab had to offer. -Kimgerly & Curtis Bay
VA: BOTTOM HEAVY WHITE TRASH GANSTA TRANCE (Moonshine) Trance it is, but where's the gansta?!! I mean, what I want to know is where is the gansta?!! Is this what gansters are saying these days..."We're gonna work it out." Misnomer much. They have no idea on how to be innovative; rather, this sounds like `70s pinched, looped, sliced, diced, typical LA pop instrumental...The LA Experience. Yawn. Some advice: score some female vocals---who knows, Track 7 "Lift Off" by Danny Saber could be a hit with a sweet thang serenading overtop. Speaking figuratively, anyone with accessibility to a Pentium Processor coulda cranked this out. This is a complete misnomer. -Curtis Bay
