Ural Regional Center of FREEnet

Summary information

The Ural Regional Center (URC) of FREEnet was created in the fall of 1993. It has been based on Division of Wide Area Networking Technologies of South Ural State University with the help of the chairman of the Executive Board of the Chelyabinsk Scientific Center of RAS, the head (now President) of Southern Ural State University German P. Vyatkin as well as Information Technology Department of Administration of Chelyabinsk oblast.

The center presents noncommercial network FREEnet (The network For Research, Education, and Engineering) on Southern Ural. It provides access to the Internet for numerous state and budgetary organizations acting in science, education, culture, medicine, and ecology.
